PDF-A

PDF is highly valued for its layout fidelity. To meet the requirements of long-term archiving PDF-A puts restrictions on a number of critical features occasionally leading to documents which, after an extend time period, cannot be reproduced on one system or the other, or perhaps even not at all or at least not in their original form: For example if unlike in PDF 1.4, all typefaces have to be embedded in the document; neither embedded audio and video data nor Javascript is allowed.
